THE CHOCOCRU® INGREDIENTS: GOOD TO KNOW

CHOCOCRU® Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa

CHOCOCRU® Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa is packed with flavanols. This is due to the special, natural and careful processing of the cocoa bean, which importantly, is also non – alkalised. This gentle processing maintains 80% of the flavanols of the cocoa bean.

These levels of flavanols make CHOCOCRU® cocoa one of the richest sources of flavanols in the world. CHOCOCRU® cocoa is also one of the richest flavanol cocoas available, far exceeding the flavanols found in either standard or raw cocoa.

- CHOCOCRU Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa Contains 415mg powerful cocoa flavanols per 5g teaspoon or 10,000 ORAC

Standard Cocoa powder contains an average of 25mg cocoa flavanols per teaspoon or 600 ORAC

Raw Cocoa powder contains 58mg cocoa flavanols per teaspoon or 1,400 ORAC

Other Benefits of CHOCOCRU® Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa

  • Reduced fat

CHOCOCRU® cocoa is reduced in fat. It contains only 11% cocoa butter, compared to an average 24% cocoa butter found typically in standard cocoa or raw cocoa.

  • Non- Alkalised

CHOCOCRU® cocoa is NON-ALKALISED. This means that the chemical processing typical of standard cocoa powders does not take place. As virtually all standard cocoa powders are alkalized this chemical process contributes to the reduction of flavanols.

  • Low Carbohydrate

CHOCOCRU® cocoa contains only 0.7g carbohydrate and a trace 0.02g of sugars per teaspoon. This makes CHOCOCRU® cocoa ideal for those following a low carbohydrate/ low GI/GL diet and individuals who prefer, no added sugar, to their cocoa.

  • Low Calorie

CHOCOCRU® cocoa contains only 13 calories per 5g teaspoon making this the ideal for those wishing to monitor their calorie intake. Adding semi skimmed milk /light soya milk contributes to a delicious, healthy diet, without the chocolate taste compromise.

note: Cocoa contains monamine oxidase enzyme inhibitors which is reputed to help suppress the appetite

  • CHOCOCRU® is Delicious and Versatile to Use

CHOCOCRU® cocoa has a delicious distinct, chocolate, malty taste. As it contains no additives and is pure, it is a wonderful ingredient to use for sweet and savoury uses. CHOCOCRU® Cocoa is ideal for making healthier, comforting warm drinks, refreshing ice cold smoothies, baking and cooking, ice creams or simply sprinkled onto yogurts and breakfast cereals.

Why does CHOCOCRU® contain such high levels of flavanols, compared to other standard and raw cocoas.

Not many people know that the WORLDS richest source of flavanol antioxidants are found in the cocoa bean. Almost all of these beneficial compounds are destroyed during conventional cocoa production.

However, CHOCOCRU Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa is processed in a special way which succeeds in maintaining up to 80% of the flavanol content of the raw cocoa bean and is thus the richest known source of powerful flavanols.

This extraordinary level of cocoa flavanols in CHOCOCRU® cocoa, is the outcome of years of extensive research into ways of preserving cocoa flavanols. The result is due to several factors including: the source of the cocoa bean, special mild and gentle processing techniques which use lower temperatures, control of fermentation and humidity and non - alkalisation.

Why is CHOCOCRU® Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa a purple/ mauve colour, rather than the typical brown colour of other cocoa’s

CHOCOCRU® Extraordinary Antioxidant Cocoa has a characteristic, delicate purple/mauve colour that is entirely natural. This is indicative of the beneficial, powerful and rich natural levels of anthocyanins, associated with high flavanol antioxidant foods from the blue/purple family of fruits and vegetables.

Anthocyanins are typically found in other high flavanol antioxidant foods such as acai berries, blueberries and red grapes. Low temperature and gentle processing helps preserve these beneficial levels of flavanols and hence the purple/mauve colour typical of CHOCOCRU® cocoa. The varying shades of conventional, brown cocoa powder may indicate the levels of roasting of cocoa beans.

Fruit Extracts (Sweet Freedom™)

A low GI (35) natural sweetener made from apples, grapes and carob.
This delicious, natural sweetener has a minimal impact on blood sugar levels. It contains natural sugars, which helps to maintain stable blood glucose levels. This can be of benefit to those trying to lose weight as it helps suppress the appetite particularly when the diet is based on low GI/GL foods which helps to stabilise blood sugar levels, by stabilising insulin.

Refined sugars such as sucrose, and glucose, which are used in confectionary and health food bars, can quickly raise then lower blood sugar levels, which can create feelings of hunger, tiredness and the desire to eat. This effect of refined sugars on insulin levels not only triggers the desire to eat, but it can have the effect of increasing body fat storage and slowing down weight loss.

Organic Coconut Oil

-reputed to speed up metabolism
-may support the structure and function of the immune system
-favourable HDL/LDL ratio -beneficial for breast feeding/mothers milk quality

Organic coconut oil is a greatly misunderstood fat. Although it is high in saturated fat, it is said to be one of the healthiest oils to use because of the nutrients it delivers, and the way in which it is metabolised by the body.

Organic coconut oil unlike other saturated fats (butter, cream, animal fats) contains NO cholesterol. It is made up of medium chain triglycerides (lauric acid, caprrylic and myristic acid), which is absorbed directly by the liver and burns rather like carbohydrate, making it a readily available source of energy. Coconut oil is the richest source of lauric acid which is sought after by thyroid sufferers as it is said to help speed up body metabolism. Lauric acid, is also the most important and essential fatty acid in building and maintaining the body’s immune system. The only other source of lauric acid found in such high concentrations is in mother’s (breast) milk. It appears through research that a high level of lauric acid in breast milk appears to be nature’s way of protecting the infant from infections.

Lactating women who are on high-carbohydrate, low fat diets may see a decrease in their milk fat levels including lauric acid fats. Women who are malnourished may also have a decrease in milk fat. Women who have infections or metabolic disorders also have lower milk fat levels. Adding coconut oil to the diet of lactating mothers is reported to raise the levels of lauric and capric acid.

ALMONDS. These are rich in manganese, magnesium, vitamin E, and like other nuts provide calcium and phosphorus and other important minerals. A study published in the American Journal of Nutrition showed that eating a combination of heart-healthy foods that includes almonds can help reduce LDL or “bad” cholesterol levels.

BRAZIL NUTS are rich in selenium; walnuts are an excellent source of omega 3.

WALNUTS contain vitamin E. The FDA states that eating 1.5g walnuts per day can reduce the risk of heart disease.
PISTACHIOS (unsalted) have a high-potassium, low-sodium content which helps to normalise blood pressure, maintain water balance in the body and strengthen muscles. Pistachio nuts are also a good source of vitamin E which boosts the immune system and alleviates fatigue. They are the only nut to offer significant amounts of the carotenoids, lutein and zeaxanthin. The intake of these carotenoids has been associated with a reduced risk of age-related macular degeneration (a common form of irreversible blindness). Pistachios are a good source of vitamin B6.

Medjool Dates and Chocolate

The carefully chosen dates and flavanol rich chocolate are both considered the “fruit of the gods”. Both contain Serotonin-the important neurotransmitter and “feel good” bliss chemical.
Dates contain minerals including copper, sulphur, iron magnesium and fluoric acid. Dates are high in fiber and an excellent source of potassium. 50g of these dates contributes to one serving of your recommended five per day.

Essential Oils
-natural
-harmonising

The essential oils in CHOCOCRU® products are entirely natural and precious-some costing several hundreds of pounds for just a few milliliters. The benefits are not only in terms of pure natural flavour, but also the reputed advantages of essential oils to calm and harmonise the body and mind.

Acai Berries

-high in antioxidants

The  acai powder in  CHOCOCRU® specialties is derived from a small purple berry from the Brazilian Amazon and has been shown to be one of the most nutritious and powerful foods on the planet. It is a super food, packed with antioxidants, healthy anti inflammatory omega-9 fats, amino acids iron, calcium, vitamin A and dietary fiber.  Acai is rich in anthocyanins which have health benefits. Acai contains ten times more anthocyanins than found in an equal serving of red wine. Acai contains phytosterols, a plant known to reduce cholesterol levels.

Raw Cocoa Nibs

Unlike roasted cocoa nibs found in most chocolate products, RAW cocoa nibs derived from the cocoa bean is one of nature’s greatest sources of antioxidants. It contains important neurotransmitters, serotonin, that is said to have a positive effect on brain chemistry.

 Spices and Herbs

The spices used in CHOCOCRU® products are freshly ground. Spices such as cinnamon have a high antioxidant capacity (aprox. 267,536 ORAC per 100g). The US Department of Agriculture found that a little cinnamon can help control post meal insulin spikes. These raised spikes in insulin levels make you feel hungry and create post – meal energy slumps, which cinnamon can help to reduce.
