Being awarded a "Great Taste Award" is like receiving an Oscar in the food industry
.
For the year 2009, more than 5,000 products were submitted from over 1,050 companies and a final total of 843 one star, 312 two star and 83 three star awards were given. The entries are blind tested by several panels of judges, and retested by a different panel if they passed the initial flavour test. The panel consists of taste experts to the food, wine and chocolate industry and most are acclaimed and respected chefs, food and wine writers and taste experts.
